Robbery and theft

LAHORE, May 15: Robbers and thieves on Monday made 15 successful strikes in various parts of the city. Six dacoits snatched Rs200,000 in cash from Muhammad Rashid in Burki. Two armed men robbed Wasim and his father of Rs120,000 in Gulberg shortly after they withdrew the money from a bank.

Cash and cell phone worth Rs30,000 were snatched from Yasin by two robbers in Jauhar Town, while two gunmen deprived Ishtiaq of Rs8,000 and a cell phone outside Lahore airport.

Two cars were driven away from Defence, while three motorcycles were taken away from Shalamar, Shadbagh and Burki areas. Three more cars were stolen from Garden Town, Hanjarwal and Islampura and two motorcycles from Model Town and Shadbagh.

ARRESTED: The city operations police claimed on Monday to have arrested seven alleged robbers.

They claimed that 18 cell phones, cash, gold and illicit weapons were recovered from their possession.

The police said the robbers were arrested in two raids conducted on a tip-off in Nawankot and Defence. Wasim, Zaman and Nawaz were arrested from Defence Housing Authority, while Salim, Waqas, Kashif and Mahmood from Nawankot.

The arrested men confessed to committing 17 crimes against property.
