LAKKI MARWAT: The police arrested over two dozen suspects during a search and strike operation here on Sunday.

An official said the police with the help of Elite Force commandos and backed by APCs raided the hideouts of anti-state elements in Shahbazkhel, Jhangkhel, Masha Mansoor and other rural areas in the limits of Shahbazkhel police station.

“The law enforcers eliminated safe havens of miscreants and arrested 30 suspects, including three drug traffickers,” he claimed, saying the cops seized arms, ammunition and narcotics from the arrested men.

Meanwhile, newly-posted Lakki Marwat district police officer Nazir Khan has asked the policemen to ensure strict adherence to security advisory and vigilance to counter-terrorism-related challenges effectively.

During a visit to a checkpost located along Bannu-Mianwali Road in Darra Tang area on Sunday, he checked security arrangements and directed the cops deployed there to remain alert and implement security guidelines in letter and spirit.

Two held in Bannu for killing man, slitting his throat

He directed the policemen to wear helmets and bulletproof vests and use all available resources for safety of the main artery between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested two suspects for killing a man and slitting his throat in the Kotka Rasool Khan Ismailkhel area of Bannu late Saturday night.

Miryakhel police station SHO Rahatullah Shah, who is complainant in the FIR, said they were patrolling in the locality when he received information that two suspects had killed a man with a pistol and slit his throat with a knife.

He said after a brief chase, the cops overpowered both the suspects, identified as Hasan, a resident of Hijramkhel, and Saad Latif of Mandan. He said the deceased was identified as Jaseem, 36, a resident of Serai Naurang area of Lakki.

POWER PROTESTS: Residents and volunteers of Nangiyali Tanzeem, a youth organisation, took to the streets on Saturday night to protest the overnight power outage on the Old Kutchery power feeder in Lakki city.

The protesters gathered at Kargil Chowk and closed the Bannu-Mianwali Road.

The protesters raised slogans against local authorities of Peshawar Electric Supply Company.

They said electric supply remained off throughout the day and now the illegal practice of shutting power supply had started during night.

They said the Old Kutchery feeder supplied electricity to commercial and residential areas of Lakki city where payment of bills and recoveries was the highest and electricity theft was almost non-existent.

A company official said a technical fault in one of the transformers at the 132KV Tajazai grid station led to power suspension in areas linked to Old Kucthery and Express feeders.

However, the agitators claimed the power supply was restored to the urban locality after they remained on the road for over one and half hours.
