QUETTA: Thunderstorm and hailstorms struck vast areas of Zhob district on Friday, killing one man, injuring several others and causing extensive damage to homes, crops and livestock.

According to sources, Nasibullah Mandokhel died by electrocution during heavy rains.

In recent days, severe storms accompanied by hail and flash floods have devastated numerous mud houses and obliterated standing crops and orchards in villages including, Shadizai Babar, Badanzai and others.

Local residents said storms have destroyed an entire year of farmers’ work.

“The livelihoods of the people here depend on livestock and agriculture, but this time their economy has been severely affected,” they said.

Locals have called on provincial officials to declare Zhob a flood-affected district to expedite aid. They urged Balochistan chief minister, governor and local authorities to take immediate action.
