LAHORE, May 14: Kasur police on Sunday claimed to have arrested seven out of the nine accused allegedly involved in an attack on a Punjab University students’ picnic party on Saturday.

The accused had reportedly attacked the students at Balloki headworks near Phoolnagar after a verbal clash over eve-teasing.

DPO Ahmad Mobin said that seven of the accused had been arrested besides the seizure of three motorcycles (used by the accused). He said hunt for the two still at large was on.

PU body: The Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASF) has demanded that the government should try under anti-terrorism act (ATA) the ‘ruffians’ who had attacked teachers and students of the institution on a study tour at Head Balloki on Saturday.

A meeting of the association on Sunday threatened “to go to any extent” if immediate legal action was not initiated against the 10 youths allegedly belonging to Joiya family of Phoolnagar.

It said the incident, first of its kind, had outraged the teaching community as well as students which was not a good omen for peaceful atmosphere of the university.

The association would announce its line of action after three days, it said.
