UNRWA director of external relations and communications Tamara Alrifai has told Al Jazeera that “there is nothing humanitarian or humane about the so-called humanitarian city” that Israel is talking about setting up, according to a post by the UN agency on X.

“Calling it [a] humanitarian city (…) is an insult to the humanitarian principles,” said Alrifai, adding that the act of seeking to confine the Gaza population to a space highly vetted by Israeli forces would turn Gaza from the largest to “the most confined and overpopulated open-air prison in the world”.

She that the plan would create “massive concentration camps” for Palestinians at the border with Egypt.
