Secretary General of Amnesty International, Agnes Callamard, has slammed the US decision to sanction UN Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, calling it an attempt by US President Donald Trump to silence pro-Palestinian voices.

In a post on X, she said, “The US sanctions against are a continuation of the Trump administration’s assault on international law and its efforts to protect the Israeli government from accountability at all costs.”

She called the move a part of Trump’s policies, “seeking to intimidate and silence those that dare speak out for Palestinians’ human rights.”

She urged the US government to shift its focus to ending its “unconditional support to Israel”.

“States must forcefully reject these disgraceful, vindictive sanctions and exert maximum diplomatic pressure on the US government to reverse them,” Callamard added.

She also called on the United Nations and governments around the world to support Francesca Albanese and “do everything in their power to mitigate and block the effort of the sanctions”.
