IMF begins review from today

Published February 7, 2002

LAHORE, Feb 6: The IMF mission will start tax-to-tax review of the country’s revenue collection target for the fiscal 2001-02 from Thursday.

This was stated by CBR member (direct taxes) Vakil Ahmed Khan while speaking to reporters here on Wednesday.

He said no “formal talks” had so far been held with the IMF mission visiting Islamabad these days. However, he added, a visiting IMF official had called on him the other day and reviewed the situation of the direct tax collection. He said the IMF official was wondering as to why collection of direct taxes had increased in the first seven months of the present financial year while that of the other taxes was declining.

He said two IMF mission were in Islamabad these days and one of them would hold meetings with the finance division to review the overall economic situation of the country.
