SUKKUR: A group of unruly youths went on the rampage at the Rohri railway station on Sunday causing damage to fixtures and furniture and physical harm to the officers sitting in their offices.
According to the local Railways officials, the youths seemed to be some of the mourners arriving in Rohri to attend Muharram congregation. They barged into the station’s offices and manhandled several officers to vent their anger.
Some PR workers present there claimed that neither the Railway Police nor the local administration attempted to intervene during the episode considering the sectarian emotions involved.
Video clips of the rampage were uploaded on social media platforms.
According to one Railways official, the youths were protesting against PR’s indifference towards the mourners who intended to travel to Rohri to participate in congregations. He said they were shouting at the PR officers for not arranging special trains and free travel for the Ashura events.
