DADU, May 13: The People’s Party Parliamentarians of Dadu chapter has passed a resolution against police torture of employees of the Dadu sugar mill and their family members outside the Governor’s House in Karachi.

A party meeting here on Saturday appealed to the chief justice of the Supreme Court to form an inquiry committee of judges from the apex court for probe into the incident.

The meeting, presided over by MNA and district PPP president Rafiq Ahmed Jamali, also passed resolutions against demolition of Sindhi villages in Karachi, construction of the Kalabagh, Bhasha and other dams on the Indus River and unfair distribution of irrigation water in Sindh.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindh PPP council member Qazi Shafiq Mahessar said the Dadu sugar mill was lying closed since 1998 and the Sindh government was not releasing salaries to 1,250 employees of the mill.

The employees, their children and women were protesting for their legal rights when police resorted to violence against them.

District PPP secretary Dost Ali Jessar advocate, Johi taluka party president Basheer Ahmed Thaheem, Khairpur taluka party president Nathan Shah, Noor Mohammad Chandio and others participated in the meeting.

Later, participants of the meeting took out a protest rally from the district PPP office to the Dadu Press Club.
