KARACHI, May 13: Women have an edge because they usually develop their own styles and products, but without the scientific methods required for international sale, asking SMEDA to assist women in this aspect.

The founder chairperson of the FPCCI’s Standing Committee on Women Entrepreneurs, Arjumand A Qazi, said this as a panelist in the discussion on 'Women in Management'. She was pleased to see her committee grow. She spoke about the improving skills in the area of product development.

She said that there was a lot of discussion on finance, marketing, packaging, etc, and while each had its own importance, what lacked was the real development of saleable products.

“Businesses in our country works on orders from other countries, hence the concept of product development is totally sidelined,” she said.

She further stated that the next important thing was the market and the business plan, and then the team that worked on these issues.

She advised that in order to be creative there was no need for money “so keep the impediment of finance out of the way when you develop ideas for products”.

“That is to be dealt with later when the business plan is put together.”—PPI
