DADU: Police have so far failed to arrest all suspects nominated in outlaws’ attack on a printing press near the local press club seriously wounding two journalists last Tuesday.
According to the just released medical report, one of the journalists, Niaz Chandio, sustained 10 bullet wounds. He is in a critical condition in a Karachi hospital. The other journalist, Rafiq Channa,
has now been transferred from a Sehwan hospital to a specialised ICU facility in Hyderabad, where his condition has also deteriorated due to complications during treatment.
The FIR of the incident was lodged at the A-Section police station of Dadu by Mohammad Khan, a relative of Niaz Chandio.
The attack was said to have been carried out by criminal elements outraged over the journalists’ reporting.
The journalist community of Dadu and other districts have strongly condemned the attack. They have been demanding immediate arrest of all those nominated in the FIR.
They also urged the government to ensure the best possible medical care to the wounded journalists.
It may be recalled that one of the attackers was killed during the attack. Police claimed that they had rushed to the site and challenged the attackers and that one of the assailants was killed in the ensuing encounter.
Office-bearers and members of various press clubs and journalist unions are considering a protest movement for the arrest of the nominated suspects.
