KARACHI, May 12: Academic activities in majority of schools in public and private sectors remained suspended in the city on Friday as the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal observed a strike.

The worst sufferers were students who were to appear in their final examinations.

Students said they had prepared for their papers and waited for school vans and other contract carriers in the morning but they did not turn up in the wake of the strike.

Situation regarding public transport, including minibuses, buses, taxis and rickshaws, was also not encouraging in the morning and that was why students could not report to their schools.

Many schools presented a deserted look due to absence of students and teachers in different parts of the city, including Federal B Area, Nazimabad, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Jamshed Town, Malir, Korangi, Liaquatabad and Saddar areas.

The situation was relatively better in some schools while in others, papers scheduled for the day were either not conducted due to absence of students or some other reasons.
