KARACHI: Hotels raided

KARACHI, May 11: The city government’s veterinary committee on Thursday raided a number of famous restaurants and seized large quantity of meat and related dishes on charges of selling them on a meatless day.

According to an official handout, the committee, headed by the city government Veterinary Committee Chairman, Arif Bhatti, during an inspection of refrigerators of various restaurants, were shocked to see that they were stuffed with inferior quality meat.

The committee also took some inferior quality meat into custody, which was allegedly being sold at some hotels near the Cantonment Railway Station for laboratory tests.The committee’s chairman warned the owners of all hotels found selling meat and beef on meatless days that they would not only be fined heavily but their hotels would also be closed if they were again found selling meat dishes on such days.

The hotels and restaurants, which were raided for selling meat dishes on the meatless day included Hassan Square’s Quetta, Tando Adam and Bolan Sajji houses; Cantonment station’s Café Attock, Al-Farooq hotel, Café Crown and Bombay hotel; Clifton’s special Salateen, Afreedi-Inn, Night Salateen, and the Lal Qila restaurant.
