RAWALPINDI: Former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senator Chaudhry Tanveer Khan was taken into custody by the police after his counsel informed the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench judge Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan that they were withdrawing the pre-arrest bail application and decided to join the police investigation in the murder case of former parliamentary secretary Chaudhry Mohammad Adnan.

Chaudhry Tanveer was charged in the murder case of Chaudhry Mohammad Adnan.

Instead of insisting on pre-arrest bail, the petition for bail was withdrawn, after which the police took Chaudhry Tanveer into custody in light of the bail cancellation order issued by the subordinate court.

In light of the high court orders, Chaudhry Tanveer, who suffers from a heart condition, was taken into custody.

Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan of the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench had rejected the withdrawal of the bail petition filed by former senator Chaudhry Tanveer Khan for confirmation of interim bail in the Adnan Chaudhry murder case.

Upon inquiry by the court, Chaudhry Tanveer’s lawyers took the position that their client wanted to surrender in the case and join police investigation, therefore, he was withdrawing his bail petition.

The accused is ready to surrender to the police to join the investigation, upon which the court accepted the offer of the accused to surrender. Later the police took him into custody.

The court, issuing a short order, dismissed the petition of the accused and ruled that he did not insist on the confirmation of pre-arrest bail, while according to the lawyer, the accused is suffering from a heart condition. It said the accused should also undergo a medical examination at the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology and once the medical examination was completed, the case should move forward as per law.

The former senator was then shifted to RIC.

It is worth mentioning here that the subordinate court hearing the murder case had rejected the pre-arrest bail application after Chaudhry Tanveer sought interim bail from the high court where on Tuesday his lawyers withdrew the petition instead of pressing for a bail confirmation petition and decided to join the police investigation.

Malik Waheed Anjum, Tanveer Iqbal Khan and Mohammad Yasir advocates appeared before the courtwith petitioner Chaudhary Tanveer Khan while Shahid Ali Shahzad Bhatti advocate represented the complainant.

Four days after the general elections, Chaudhry Mohammad Adnan was gunned down while his driver was injured when unidentified motorcycle riders targeted him outside the Police Lines Headquarters on February 12, 2024.

According to initial police reports, Chaudhry Mohammad Adnan who contested Feb 8 general election for NA-57 and PP-11 as an independent candidate was on his way to his Jhanda Chichi Road residence in his car from Kutchery Chowk when he was targeted by motorcycle riders on the busy Old Airport Road.

Later, Chaudhry Tanveer Khan, MNA-elect Daniyal Chaudhry, Osama Tanveer and Changez Khan were booked by the Civil Line police in Chaudhry Adnan murder case. They denied their involvement in the murder case while recording their statements with the Civil Lines police.
