QUETTA: In view of increasing environmental challenges, the Balochistan government has decided to establish the a climate change fund after approval from Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti on Wednesday.
The Balochistan Climate Change Fund aims to mitigate the impacts of climate change and support sustainable development across the province.
Chief Minister Bugti, during a meeting with various delegations today, termed the initiative as a critical and timely step, emphasising that Balochistan faces serious threats from climate change.
He noted that through this fund, practical measures would be implemented to provide a healthier and safer environment to people.

“The provincial government has already prioritised environmental conservation as part of its sustainable development agenda, and this fund represents a tangible step toward that goal,” officials said.
The officials further said that the fund will focus on promoting adaptation and mitigation strategies to tackle climate risks, conserving natural resources, promoting nature-compatible development planning, and restoring ecosystems through nature-based solutions.
Environmental experts have welcomed the move, expressing hope that the fund will play a key role in restoring ecological balance and raising environmental awareness in the province.
Environmental challenges
Chief Minister Bugti added the coalition provincial government is preparing a budget for the next financial year with an aim to take steps for resolving socioeconomic and environmental challenges being faced by Balochistan and with the commitment to transparency, good governance and sustainable development in the province.
He stated this while speaking to the MPAs of coalition partners on Wednesday. He added,
“We are making efforts to present a balanced budget for the next financial year and that will be realistic, and focused on public welfare. Special attention is being paid to align available resources with the province’s priorities and the requirements of its people.”
“New budget will prioritise improvements in governance, public welfare, quality education, healthcare services, creating employment opportunities, and integrated development projects,” Mr Bugti said.
The chief minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the deprivations of Balochistan’s people, providing equal opportunities for development, and ensuring the transparent utilisation of resources.
