KARACHI, May 10: Journalists have to array themselves along with other social groups to ensure their hard earned freedom. The public voice can only be heard when it is collectively raised.

This was stated by a veteran teacher and former chairman of the Department of Mass Communications, University of Karachi, Professor Zikrya Sajid.

He was speaking as chief guest at a seminar on 'Press freedom: a public right'.

The moot was organized by the Department of Mass Communications, Federal Urdu university of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) at the Abdul Haq Campus here.

Prof Sajid pointed out that a good journalist is never under the spell of any slogan, no matter how dominant it may prevail in society.

The seminar was also addressed by Tauseef Ahmed Khan, chairman of the department, Mazhar Abbas, General Secretary Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Saeed Hasan Khan, a senior journalist.

The speakers said that freedom of press not only pertains to journalists, it also affects entire society.—APP
