LAKKI MARWAT: Three terrorists were killed and a police official embraced martyrdom in a gun battle in the Lakki Marwat district on Monday.

A police official said that a large police contingent backed by the armed volunteers of a peace committee reached the Kot Kashmir area on information that terrorists were moving there from the Gandi Khankhel area.

He said the law enforcers engaged the terrorists in a gunfight, in which a terrorist commander known as Chota Waseem was killed, while a policeman, identified as Shahidullah, was injured. He later succumbed to injuries on way to a hospital.

The police official said two other terrorists were holed up in a house and they used women and children as a human shield to secure a safe passage.

“But the cops surrounded the house, freed the hostages safely and killed the terrorists in a two-hour-long gunfight,” he claimed.

He said Chota Waseem and his accomplices were wanted by law enforcement agencies for their involvement in several terrorist incidents.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed announced cash rewards and appreciation certificates for the policemen who took part in the operation.

The funeral prayers of the martyred policeman were offered at the police lines in the District Headquarters Complex, Tajazai.
