Water situation improves: Irsa

Published May 10, 2006

ISLAMABAD, May 9: The water situation in the country’s reservoirs has improved considerably, says Irsa. The Indus River System Authority claimed that inflow at its rim station improved to 241,000 cusecs on May 8, and provinces were expected to receive their indented supplies, which were specified at 110,000 cusecs for Punjab, 76,000 cusecs for Sindh, 2,700 cusecs for the NWFP and 3,400 cusecs for Balochistan.

Moreover, it is expected that almost 32,000 cusecs of water would be stored in Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs.

The water situation was reviewed in a meeting chaired by Mr Liaquat Ali Jatoi, federal Minister for Water and Power, who urged the provinces to keep in mind the importance of national resource conversation while placing their indents with Irsa. —Online
