BAHAWALPUR: A doctor and his uncle were killed and five others seriously injured when nine armed men of their rival group opened fire during a clash at Chak 43-DNB near Ahmedpur East in the limits of Dera Nawab Sahib police station, about 40km from here, on Thursday night.
According to a district police spokesman, in the FIR No 261/25, registered under sections 302, 324, 148 and 149 of PPC, the complainant Nadeem Lashari said the suspects Akhtar alias Sani, Muhammad Ahmed, Inamullah, Kalimullah, Salamat and Ataullah, along with their three unidentified accomplices opened fire on his son Dr Shairaz and brother Waseem and his five relatives.
He said that as a result, Dr Shairz and Waseem died on the spot, while his relatives Shehzad, Fahad, Irfan, Sajjad and Asif suffered serious bullet injuriesand were shifted to the local THQ hospital.
The attackers managed to flee and were yet to be arrested.
As per the police, both groups had exchanged words a few days ago.
DEATH ON FIVE COUNTS: Mailsi Additional Sessions Judge Abdul Ghaffar handed down death sentence on five counts with fine to a man in a murder and rape case remanded by the Lahore High Court.
Earlier, former ASJ Muhammad Jahangir Ashraf had handed down a death sentence on three counts to the convict, Azhar, alongwith a fine of Rs0.6 million.
Azhar filed an appeal against the conviction in the LHC‘s Multan bench, which, after completion of thehearing on May 8, remanded the case to the court of ASJ Abdul Ghaffar.
According to the prosecution, the convict had raped and killed two girls in 2023.
ARRESTED: The Crime Control Department (CCD), Multan, claimed to have arrested two suspects, Imran and Hammad, for allegedly exhibiting arms publicly, harassing the public.
On a tip-off, a CCD team arrested the suspects and lodged them in the police lock-up.
PROTEST: The daily-wage employees of the Utility Stores Corporation (USC), Vehari, staged a protest demo, demanding the payment of their salaries for the last four months.
The protesters gathered in front of the USC warehouse on Khanewal Road in Vehari and demanded payment of their four-month salaries.
They said that after their compulsory dismissal from service, they were again summoned to their jobs, but were not paid salaries for the last four months.
They said that due to non-payment of their salaries, they and their families were on the verge of starvation.
BODY RETRIEVED: The Rescue 1122 divers on Friday retrieved the body of a five-year-old girl, Iqra, who had drowned in Abbasia Link Canalat Kallarwali near Uch Sharif on Thursday.
As per the rescuers, Iqra was playing near the canal when she slipped and fell into the water.
