NAROWAL, May 9: The district police officer on Tuesday suspended from service a head constable, who has reportedly won President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s sympathies on his complaint against the DPO. The complainant was also detained the same day.

The president is learnt to have taken notice of the complaint and directed the Punjab IGP to take necessary action.

Head constable Muhammad Ishaq had submitted an application to the president in which he alleged that DPO Bilal Siddique was often hard on him and other employees. He charged the DPO with being corrupt and violator of rules to torment his subordinates.

He said he was posted in Kot Nainan police station, but the OASI branch of the DPO office had transferred and posted him in first reserve judicial guard without any justification.

He said he was 43 years of age and according to the IGP orders, a policeman above 40 years could not be posted in first or second reserve judicial guard.

The complainant said the branch had become a den of corruption as whenever a policeman got transferred he had to pay at least Rs2,000 to it as bribe for the cancellation of the orders.

He said when he submitted an appeal to the IGP, the Gujranwala Range DIG and the DPO for the redress of his grievances, the last mentioned abused him and threatened him with dismissal from service. He alleged that the DPO was harassing him for withdrawal of his application.

The head constable threatened that he would commit suicide in front of the DPO office if he was denied justice.

Denying the charges, DPO Bilal Siddique said the policeman was blackmailing him but he refused to succumbed to any tactic. He said the constable was not mentally fit.
