ISLAMABAD: Veteran Aqeel Khan reigned supreme at the Emerging Pakistan National Ranking Tennis Championships, concluding here at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex on Wednesday.

The 45-year-old Aqeel triumphed over Muzammil Murtaza 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-3. He dominated the first set, but Muzammil forced a tiebreaker in the second, which he won with grit. Aqeel’s experience paid off in the decisive third set as he sealed the title.

In other events, Pakistan Tennis Federation presiddent Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel won the doubles title, defeating Abdullah Adnan and Muzammil 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.

Ushna Suhail claimed the women’s title with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Zunaisha Noor.

In junior categories, AbuBakar Talha won the Under-18 crown, Muhammad Junaid took the Under-14 title and Muhammad Aayan emerged triumphant in the Under-12 event.

Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan attended the closing ceremony, distributing trophies to winners and runners-up. Also present were secretary Inter Provincial Coordination Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani and PTF secretary Zia-ud-Din Tufail.
