KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Tuesday remanded a businessman and his guard in police custody in a case pertaining to their alleged involvement in an assault on a motorcyclist in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

The investigating officer of the case produced suspects Salman Farooqi and his guard, Owais before Judicial Magistrate (South) Muzamil Ali Soomro and sought their custody for interrogation.

Defence counsel Naeem Qureshi attempted to file a bail application on behalf of Farooqi. However, the magistrate did not entertain the plea as the sections of the Pakistan Penal Code invoked in the FIR were triable by a sessions court.

The court remanded the duo in police custody for two days.
