RAWALPINDI: While Nawaz Sharif Flyover on Adiala Road is complete, construction work on service roads will take another two weeks, much to the inconvenience of the residents.

A senior official of the Communication and Works Department told Dawn that the construction of service roads was pending as there were some electricity poles, which Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (Iesco) will take a week to relocate.

However, he said the left side service road will likely be completed before Eidul Azha while the right side of the service road towards Adiala will take a week or two.

He said the department had asked Iesco to relocate the electricity poles as soon as possible and they were working on it.

He said the Communication and Works Department had transferred Rs264.314 million to Iesco while Rs30 million to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines limited (SNGPL) to relocate their services.

The official said carpeting of road on the flyover had been completed and it will open after Eidul Azha. In the meantime, he said work on the service roads would be completed as vehicles plied on the flyover.

On the other hand, the worst traffic jam was witnessed on Adiala Road due to theconstructionworkas there was no other alternative routefortheresidents.

The residents complained that the provincial government had launched workin a hurry and without any planning.

They said instead of facilitating them, the road had createdproblemsforthem.

“The relevant authorities should relocate the electricity poles first and then start constructing the road. However, the government started both at the same time,” said Mohammad Afsar, a resident of Adiala Road.

He said the road was dusty which was causing upper respiratory diseases among commuters who had to go to their offices and schools. Nawaz Raja, a resident of Khawaja Corporation Chowk, said thelocaladministration should complete the road as soon as possible.

“In the dry weather, a layer of dust remains inside the houses. Children are suffering from sore throat and fever,” he said, adding that the contractor had left dug-up patches which might prove fatalforroad users at night.
