GUJRAT: The district administration has sealed the Gujranwala press club as a ‘preemptive’ measure to avoid any untoward situation in the wake of differences over holding the election of club officials.

On the orders of Gujranwala Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed, an official team sealed the club in Model Town late on Friday night.

A group of journalists that has been at the helm of affairs of the club for the last eight years, however, reached the spot and lodged a protest against the administration.

Earlier on May 27 some senior members from three different groups of journalists had held a meeting with the DC on the issue of press club elections and preparation of voters list.

Following that meeting, the election schedule was issued by the officials of different groups and June 4 was decided as the polling day.

A senior journalist said preparations for holding the June 04 elections were being made but the venue was yet to be decided.

Earlier, the administration of Sheikhupura and Mandi Bahauddin districts had also sealed press clubs in these towns during the last couple of months.
