KARACHI: Heavy vehicles ran over and killed two persons, including a college teacher, in the city on Saturday.
Korangi Industrial Area SHO Mohammed Ali Niazi said that a water tanker hit a motorcyclist on Jam Sadiq Bridge.
He suffered critical injuries and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead. The victim was identified as Sadaqat, 22.
The tanker driver was arrested and his vehicle impounded.
In another accident, a fast-moving trailer killed Iftikhar Ahmed Bhutto, 35, in Future Colony when he was on his way to his workplace.
Malir SP Mansoor Gulzar Bozdar told Dawn that Mr Ahmed was a lecturer at the Govt College Ibrahim Hyderi.
The incident occurred at 7:40am.
The police said that the trailer driver managed to escape from the spot, leaving behind the heavy vehicle.
The SP said an FIR was registered against the driver under Sections 320 (manslaughter) and 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of victim’s brother Waqar Ahmed Bhutto.
The victim was a resident of Gulshan-i-Hadeed and father of four children.
