KARACHI: Nineteen workers were rescued when a huge fire broke out in a factory and rapidly engulfed the three storey-building in Landhi, police and rescue services officials said.

The blaze triggered breathing problems for the people stuck in the building, with five of them stated to be in critical condition as they became unconscious. They were shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Rescue-1122 spokesperson Hassaan Khan told Dawn the fire erupted due to “melting” of solar panels ostensibly because of temperature.

Two floors were badly damaged in the fire while the third floor was also affected, he added.
