ISLAMABAD: Mehaq Khokhar defeated Noor Malik in a gripping women’s final while Mohammad Shoaib and Muzammil Murtaza won the men’s doubles title of the 37th OGDCL Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championship here at the PTF Complex on Friday.

Mehaq, in a closely fought match that lasted three hours and 10 minutes, downed Noor 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.

Mehaq gained a 4-1 lead in the opening set by breaking Noor in the second and fourth games before sealing the set.

The second set saw Noor rally back to a 3-1 lead. Although Mehaq broke back to level the score 4-4, Noor held her nerves, breaking Mehaq in the 11th game and serving out to claim the set.

In a seesaw decisive set, the score reached 5-5. In a dramatic 12th game, Mehaq displayed exceptional control at the net and secured the match by breaking Noor after an error at 30-40.

Mohammad Shoaib and Muzammil Murtaza outplayed the pair of Barkatullah and Yousaf Khan 6-3, 6-1 in the men’s doubles final.

Both Shoaib and Muzammil on Thursday had already moved into the men’s singles final.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Junaid Khan outclassed Shayaan Afridi 4-1, 4-1 to clinch the boys 14 & under singles decider.

In the boys 18 & under singles semi-finals, Moha­mmad Salar Khan battled past Abdul Basit 1-6, 6-0, 6-1 while Mohammad Hazik Aasim upset second seed Mohammad Yahya 6-1, 7-5.
