LAHORE, May 7: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal vice-president senator Sajid Mir has said that the MMA will not repeat the mistake of supporting Gen Pervez Musharraf and will try to get rid of the ruling clique by marching on Islamabad.
Talking to the press after a meeting at the Ahle Hadith Secretariat here on Sunday, he said the news of meetings between Mian Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto and alliance of the opposition parties had unnerved Gen Musharraf and he had allegedly started pre-poll rigging by patronising the PML-Q for protection of his uniform. He said the entire system would collapse as soon as the general shed his uniform.
He said the ‘official’ Muslim League did not enjoy support of the people and was sticking to power by supporting Pervez Musharraf. Pakistan was the only democratic country in the world being ruled by a general in uniform. — Reporter
