KARACHI, May 7: Mosquitoes have invaded almost all parts of the city, giving rise to the cases of malaria. Confirming that cases of malaria are being reported in public and private sector hospitals daily, doctors attribute it to the increasing number of mosquitoes in the metropolis. They urged the town municipal administrations to immediately launch an anti-mosquitoes drive in their jurisdictions, or else the disease might spread in the city in an epidemic form.

Residents of various localities complained that increasing number of mosquitoes had made their life miserable as they usually spend sleepless nights, especially without electricity.

Referring to the city government’s repeated announcements concerning the anti-mosquito campaign, they deplored that the city government had failed to launch the drive.

Residents of old city areas complained that their localities seldom get relief from the menace of mosquitoes as the major nullahs passing through their localities had been turned into mosquito breeding grounds and the staff of malaria control department often took the plea that they were helpless in undertaking spray in nullahs, as most of them were heavily encroached upon.

A large number of shops had been built over the nullahs, particularly those passing through near Urdu Bazaar and Light House.
