Double success for Tahir

KARACHI, May 6: Tahir Gul conjured up two successive wins on the opening day of the second National Seniors Tennis championship at the Karachi Gymkhana on Saturday.

Serving as a coach at a local five star hotel, Tahir got the better of Akhtar Aliman 6-2, 6-1 in the 35 plus singles.

Tahir who has also entered 45 plus category, was home against Khalid Mustaghees after the latter who was trailing 1-4 in the opening set retired.

Eijaz Sarhadi faced little resistance from Mustafa Pirzada before emerging 6-3, 6-4 winner in 35 singles.

35 plus singles (first round)

Tahir Gul bt Akhtar Aliman 6-2, 6-1; Eijaz Sarhadi bt Mustafa Pirzada 6-3, 6-4.

45 plus singles (first round)

Tahir Gul bt Khalid Mustaghees 4-1 (retd).

Sunday’s fixtures: 5.30pm: 35 doubles; 45 doubles; mixed doubles.
