BEIJING: Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong met on Tuesday Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi to discuss tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi, a statement from his ministry said on Wednesday.

Sun said “China welcomes and supports Pakistan and India achieving a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire”, the statement said. “China is ready to continue to play a constructive role in this regard,” it added.

Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday appreciated Pakistan’s prudent policy that prioritised dialogue and reconciliation in resolving disputes.

“We highly appreciate the prudent, patient policy of the Pakistani state that prioritises dialogue and reconciliation in resolving disputes,” Mr Erdogan wrote on X, responding to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s post in which he praised Turkiye’s role in promoting peace in South Asia.

He said that Ankara placed “great importance” on Pakistan’s peace, stability, and prosperity.

Mr Erdogan said that the “brotherhood” between Ankara and Islamabad, which is a rare blessing for only a few nations in the world,“ was “one of the most beautiful examples of true friendship”.
