BAHAWALPUR:District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Hassan Iqbal suspended three officials, including Channigoth station house officer (SHO), following the escape of an under-trial suspect, Nisar Kaleem alias Mithoo, from custody on Monday night.
Reports said Nisar Kaleem, who was nominated in first information report No. 217/25 registered under Section 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), was on physical remand and in the custody of Channigoth police when he escaped.
Taking serious notice of the incident, the DPO suspended SHO Naeem Akhtar, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Aslam and Moharrar Asad Hanif.
A case has also been registered against the suspects.
KILLED: Two people, including a woman, were killed in separate incidents in Burewala and Bahawalpur on Tuesday.
In Burewala, a labourer died and two others were injured when the roof of an under-construction house collapsed in a private housing colony in the city, located in Vehari district. According to Rescue 1122, the workers were on the roof when it suddenly caved in, burying them under the debris. Allah Ditta was killed in the incident, while Javed and Hanif sustained injuries. The deceased and injured were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital, Burewala.
In Bahawalpur, 50-year-old Sakeena Bibi was run over and killed by the Up-Millat Express, which was en route from Karachi to Sargodha. The incident occurred at a railway crossing on Multan Road. As per Rescue 1122, she was crossing the railway track when the train struck her, resulting in her immediate death. Her body was handed over to her family by rescuers in the presence of police. The family declined to shift the body to the local hospital for a post-mortem examination.
MURDER: A young woman, Tayyaba Bibi (27), was allegedly killed under mysterious circumstances in Basti Azeempur near Jaffery Town, Bahawalpur, on Tuesday.
According to Rescue 1122, the rescuers arrived at the scene where the victim’s family claimed that a man named Nadir had allegedly tortured Tayyaba and later hanged her from a ceiling fan, resulting in her death. Nadir reportedly fled the scene before rescuers arrived.
Meanwhile, a team from Saddar Police also reached the location and took the body into custody. However, the family refused to allow the body to be shifted to the hospital for a postmortem examination.
Police officials said an investigation is currently underway at the scene. Forensic experts and the crime scene unit have also been called in for on-site examination.
The authorities said legal action will be initiated following preliminary investigations.
