KOHAT: Hundreds of sanitation workers from the water supply and sanitation company here on Tuesday suspended work to protest the non-payment of salary for two months.

The workers were transferred from the tehsil municipal administration to the WSSC in 2016 on deputation under an agreement, which stated that their salaries would be paid by the TMA and they would get a 20 per cent allowance.

The secretary and the deputy commissioner had to intervene every three months to resolve the issue between TMA and WSSC.

The workers said the TMA, the richest in the province, had been delaying payment of their salary for two to three months since then.

They said around 530 staff members were transferred to the WSSC, while the TMA held back their wages and asked for the return of deputationists by terming the WSSC a white elephant and a parallel organisation.
