RAWALPINDI: Two police officials and two accomplices of proclaimed offenders were injured during an encounter in the Waris Khan police area on Wednesday.

The encounter took place when a police party, led by SI Qasir Khan raided the hideout of three proclaimed offenders (POs) but the POs started firing on police raiding party which resulted in the injuries to constable Adnan and Tauseef. When police responded, two accomplices of the suspects were injured and were subsequently detained by the police.

However, the proclaimed offenders who were wanted by the police managed to escape from the scene.

Earlier, in another incident the police detained three suspected robbers who sustained injuries during an encounter with the police.

However, two of their accomplices managed to escape in the Rawat area.

A police spokesman said that the encounter between the police and suspected robbers took place when the police signaled motorcycle riders to stop during a snap checking in the Rawat police station area late last night.

Instead, they sped off. When the police chased them, the accused started firing, resulting in the injuries to three of the suspects who were arrested in an injured state during the firing, while two other suspects managed to escape.

The arrested persons were wanted by the police in several robbery cases.

Senior police officers reached the spot following the information of the incident.

A search was underway in the area to arrest the escapees. The injured have been shifted to the hospital.
