Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon on Wednesday ordered the police to remain alert at all levels in view of the tense situation at the country’s borders, according to an official statement.

He directed policemen to keep strict watch on bazaars, markets and public places as well as enhance monitoring and checking at the bordering towns and important installations.

“Pak Army, Air Force and Navy are extremely alert at the borders while Sindh police are alert against the enemies inside the province,” said the IGP.

Separately, Additional IGP Karachi Javed Alam Odho chaired a high-level meeting at his office in view of the prevalent situation. The Karachi police chief ordered personnel to remain alert and present at their headquarters, while the leaves of policemen have been cancelled, according to the police statement.

He said the monitoring of all important installations should be increased.

Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 Sindh has prepared an “emergency contingency plan”, which outlines preparedness and resource allocation in anticipation of the prevailing emergency situation, and shared it with all deputy commissioners, according to Brigadier (retired) Wajid Sibghatullah Mahar, director general of Rescue 1122.

“Rescue 1122 (Sindh) is on high alert and prepared with manpower, resources and coordination protocols to deal with any emergency efficiently,” according to the content of the plan reviewed by Dawn.com on Wednesday. “Rescue 1122 team stands fully ready to respond to any emergency across the province in view of the current emergencies.”
