LAKKI MARWAT: A police official was martyred when terrorists attacked him on Miryan Road in Bannu district on Tuesday.

A police official said the attack took place in Kinger Jan Bahadar area in the limits of Mandan police station.

He identified the martyred policeman as constable Khanzeb, saying terrorists riding a motorcycle opened fire on him when he was going to join duty. “The cop was critically injured and was hurried to the District Headquarters Hospital where he was pronounced dead,” he said.

Bannu district police officer Saleem Abbas Kulachi also inspected the site of the attack and directed early arrest of the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, body of a villager, who had been kidnapped by terrorists on Monday, was found near the mountains in the Sherikhel area on Tuesday.

The police said the deceased, Shafiur Rehman, 25, was a differently-abled person.

Tariq Shah, a brother of the deceased, told police that on May 5, he and his brother were in their shop in the village when over a dozen terrorists affiliated with banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan came there and took away his brother with them.

He said the terrorists thought his brother worked as an informer for security forces.

“We tried to contact kidnappers to secure the safe release of Shafiur Rehman, but on Tuesday we came to know that his body was lying in the mountains,” he claimed.

Police registered a case.

Separately, two people, including a child, were injured in a roadside bomb explosion in Kot Kashmir area of Lakki on Tuesday. The police said the blast occurred in the rural area when a passenger vehicle was passing by.

They identified the injured as Khanzeb (child) and Noorullah, residents of Ayazwala area. They were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Serai Naurang.
