Pro-Palestinian protesters have again taken aim at one of the fashion world’s biggest nights as the Met Gala got under way in New York’s Manhattan, Al Jazeera reports.

Protesting to highlight the conflict in Gaza, demonstrators gathered about a block away from the gala as the area immediately around the Metropolitan Museum of Art was cordoned off by police.

Video clips shared on social media showed some protesters hopping over barricades as they marched in the rain through Central Park towards the events and celebrity participants who have been accused of flaunting their “extreme wealth and materialism” while Israel perpetrates offensive in Gaza.

“Not a single food or aid truck has entered Gaza for two months, leading to mass starvation of the Palestinian people,” the Within Our Lifetime protest group wrote in a post on social media.
