HANGU, May 4: A demonstration was held on Thursday in protest against loadshedding in Doaba, about 30 kilometres west of Hangu.

Eyewitnesses said that protesters chanted slogans against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) as they marched through roads and blocked the main highway for more than one hour.

Naib Nazim Karbogha union council Hafiz Sultan and councillor Javed Iqbal led the rally. They complained that Pesco frequently carried out hours-long and unscheduled loadshedding in Doaba town and adjoining areas.

Officials of Pesco and the district government representatives reached on the spot and assured the protesters that their problem would be resolved. Later the highway was opened for traffic.

Liquor seized: Police recovered 165 bottles of liquor following a raid on a truck in Jozara area on Thursday.
