LAKKI MARWAT/CHARSADDA: A terrorist was killed and two policemen, including an officer, were injured in a gun battle in Bannu on Tuesday night.

A police official said unidentified armed men ambushed a party of the Saddar police station near Kot Adil after midnight, leading to a gun battle.

He said that the policemen were on patrol in the area when they came under attack.

“During the exchange of fire, a terrorist was neutralised and killed, while his accomplice was injured, but he escaped taking the cover of darkness,” he said.

He said two police officials, including SHO Waseem Sajjad and constable Hayatullah, were also injured in the gunfight, and were taken to a hospital where their condition is stated to be stable.

The official said that body of the terrorist was also shifted to hospital, where his identification was under process.

He said police seized arms and ammunition and hand grenades from the spot, and launched a search for the fleeing terrorist.

After the attack, regional police officer Sajjad Khan along with district police officer Saleem Abbas Kulachi inspected the venue of attack and supervised the search operation.

Later, both of them visited the hospital where they enquired after the policemen.

The regional police chief directed the hospital management to ensure provision of standard treatment to the injured cops.

Meanwhile, a constable was killed and an employee of the health department sustained injuries when unidentified terrorists riding a motorcycle opened fire on them in Charsadda on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Charsadda city police station.

According to the FIR filed by additional SHO city police station Sadiq Shah, constable Farooq Shah, a resident of Sardheri area, was travelling in his car to report for duty at the office of the NAB director general in Peshawar. He was accompanied by an employee of Lady Reading Hospital.

When the car reached Ghani Khan Road, unidentified motorcyclists opened fire, resulting in the death of the policeman, while the health department employee, identified as Asad, was seriously injured.

A case was registered against the unknown assailants.

The Counter-Terrorism Department’s police station in Mardan registered a case under sections 7-ATA, 302 (murder), 324 (attempted murder), and 34 (common intention) against unknown terrorists.

The police arrived at the crime scene, collected evidence, and launched a search operation to apprehend the terrorists.
