LAHORE: Top-rated chestnut horse Jim and Tonic scorched his way into the country’s longest race Pakistan Gold Cup’s history, producing scintillating pace in the final stretch to land the prestigious event -- over 2800 metres in a record time at the floodlit Lahore Race Club on Sunday night.

Races are being held in the night in view of the prevailing extreme hot weather. The winner was ridden by jockey Aamir Pervaiz and trained by A.B. Malik, clocking two minutes 57 seconds.

Jim and Tonic lived up to his star billing to beat his closest rival, bay Pakistani Star, by four lengths with chestnut colt Public Star third, a street’s margin away.

A race earlier, bay colt Verde One -- trained by Shahid Rehman — landed the Native Tune Cup over 1100 metres in majestic style, guided by Jockey Awais Anjum.
