MUZAFFARGARH: Kot Addu Police on Monday arrested a former Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) MPA, Ashraf Khan Rind, for allegedly helping his father evade arrest during a police raid.

A case was registered against him under Section 212 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Earlier, a case had already been registered at Kot Addu Saddar Police Station against his father, Haji Manzoor Hussain Rind, and an accomplice, Jawad, for allegedly sexually assaulting the wife of an employee. According to the First Information Report (FIR), ‘A’, a worker at Haji Manzoor Hussain’s cattle shed, alleged that his wife was sexually assaulted after being given a poisonous pesticide.

Following the registration of the case under Sections 375-A and 337-J, Kot Addu Saddar Police launched a raid at Head Taunsa Barrage to arrest the suspect. During the operation, ex-MPA Ashraf Khan Rind allegedly tipped off his father about the raid and helped him flee from the scene.

Sources said police are continuing efforts to arrest both Haji Manzoor Hussain and his accomplice. Meanwhile, a separate case under Section 212 has been registered against Ashraf Khan Rind for assisting his father’s escape. The victim has been shifted to a hospital for medical examination.
