LAKKI MARWAT: The police on Monday claimed to have repelled a midnight terrorist attack on a police station in the Bakkakhel town of Bannu district.

An official said a group of terrorists attacked the police station building late at night using light and heavy weapons. “Though it was a multi-pronged attack, the assailants could not succeed in breaching the building,” he claimed.

He said the policemen deployed at the building exhibited extreme vigilance and repulsed the attack bravely, forcing the terrorists to flee. He said all policemen remained safe during exchange of fire.

Meanwhile, the newly-posted regional police officer Sajjad Khan visited the police station and met with cops. He lauded the policemen for bravery, saying the police force was fully alert to thwart nefarious plans of anti-state elements. He distributed cash prizes among the cops.

In Karak, the police conducted an operation against terrorists and criminals’ gangs in Bahadarkhel town located on the Hangu-Bannu border.

A police official said terrorists would use the mountainous belt as safe havens to carry out subversive acts in parts of the district. He said the operation was part of a plan to clear the area of miscreants and eliminate their hideouts.

The official asked the anti-peace elements to surrender or leave the area.

Meanwhile, a teenage boy drowned in a dam in Sabirabad area of Karak on Monday.

A Rescue 1122 official said divers recovered his body from Makh Banda dam after hectic efforts. He said the deceased was identified as Farhan, 19, a resident of Swabi district.
