LARKANA, May 3: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has said his party stands by its policy on the Kalabagh dam and will not accept any project harmful to Sindh.

According to a press release issued by the party, Mr Hussain told journalists at a rally held here on the eve of the MQM-sponsored Jashn-i-Latif that he was confident the Kalabagh dam would not be built.

Speaking at a rally in Khairpur, he said there was a need to spread the message of peace of Shah Latif.

Responding to a question by an elderly Christian, he said his party respected Christians and all other minorities. According to the press release, the victory of MQM’s candidate in the Hyderabad by-election was celebrated at the party’s international secretariat in London.

Addressing members of the party’s Hyderabad zonal committee, Mr Hussain congratulated them on the victory and expressed the hope the MQM would achieve success all over the country in the coming general election.
