ISLAMABAD, May 3: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed its concern over mushroom growth of law colleges without proper building and facilities.

Hearing a petition filed by Rashed A. Razvi, former vice- chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council, the bench issued notice to the attorney general, advocates general of all the four provinces and other respondents.

It directed the Higher Education Commission to take steps for suitable amendments to the charter of the universities regarding grant of affiliation to law colleges.

The court accepted a request by Supreme Court Bar Association president Malik Mohammad Qayyum to make the SCBA a party in the case.

The bench directed the petitioner to make arrangements for publication of an advertisement in newspapers to create awareness about the issue.

All the respondents were asked by the court to submit para- wise comments within a period of two weeks.

Death in accident: Meanwhile, the same bench of the apex court adjourned till Thursday the hearing of Dr Sher Afgan’s petition seeking restoration of an FIR over his son’s death in a road accident.

The petitioner has challenged a decision of the Lahore High Court quashing the FIR lodged against the officials of a motor manufacturing company.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad and Justice Hamid Ali Mirza adjourned the hearing for want of time.

Dr Afgan had lodged a complaint with the Margalla police regarding death of his son in an accident on October 26, 2002, in front of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) against the driver of the wagon which collided with the vehicle of his son.—APP
