KARACHI: A fast-moving truck ran over and killed a motorcyclist and his pillion passenger near Port Qasim on Friday, police said.

Bin Qasim SHO Tahir Qadri told Dawn that the accident took place near a residential colony of Port Qasim employees while descending a flyover.

As a result, Mohammed Hasan, 55, and his relative, Jan Mohammed, 65, suffered critical injuries and died on the spot.

The truck driver responsible for the accident managed to escape, leaving behind the heavy vehicle that was later seized by the police.

Suspect shot dead in ‘encounter’

A suspected robber was shot dead in an ‘encounter’ in Korangi on Friday.

The Korangi Industrial Area police said that the encounter took place with pillion-riders at Korangi Causeway road. After an exchange of firing, one suspect was arrested in wounded condition while his accomplice managed to escape.

The wounded suspect was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His identity could not be ascertained immediately.

One bike and a pistol were recovered from his custody.
