LARKANA: Sindh Women Lawyers Alliance (SWLA) on Sunday held a protest march from Koto Moto Chowk to the Shahdadkot Press Club over unabated incidents of murder, domestic violence and discrimination against women in the city.

The family of a primary teacher, Sadaf Hasilo, who was killed allegedly by her fiancé while she was on her way to her workplace a few days back, also joined in the rally.

The protesters demanded a fair investigation into the death of a woman police constable, Mahwish Jarwar, whose body was found hanging from the ceiling of her room recently.

They also demanded that killer of Sadaf Hasilo should be arrested and brought to justice.

SWLA Sindh General Secretary Advocate Rubina Chandio, Primary Teachers Association President Haji Khan Soomro, Advocate Nadira Seelro, Shanul Khoso, Rifat Buriro, Wahab Pandhrani, Ghaffar Pandhrani and others addressed the participants.

They expressed their concern over the rising incidents of crime and domestic violence against women in the town and observed that women were not safe at their workplaces, educational institutions and even in their homes.

They pointed out that the two young victims in the recent incidents were educated women and had sought police protection after being threatened. They condemned that despite their complaints, no action was taken by the police and resultantly the women were killed.

They called for reforms to be introduced in the policing and judicial system, implementation of laws on women’s protection and induction of women in the police department and judiciary to ensure fair investigation into the cases of violence against women and sincere official efforts towards protecting women against all kinds of threats.
