GUJRAT: As many as 2,900 Sikh pilgrims reached Gurdwara Rohri Sahib in Eminabad (near Gujranwala) on Saturday night in connection with the 326th Baisakhi festival.

The pilgrims reached in two different convoys of buses amid strict security measures.

The pilgrims are due to attend celebrations at their religion’s holy site on Sunday (today).

Gujranwala deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed and City Police Officer Rana Ayaz Saleem and others were present to accord a warm reception to the pilgrims.

Speaking on the occasion, the pilgrims thanked the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for ensuring better arrangements. “We always feel at home in Punjab due to love and affection of Pakistanis,” said a guest.

A modern control room has been established to monitor the security arrangements, with advanced surveillance cameras installed. Over 1,700 police officers and personnel have been deployed to ensure security, in addition to 22 Elite Force teams and 12 Dolphin Force units performing their duties.

According to CPO Ayaz Saleem, police teams have also been deployed along the routes designated for Sikh pilgrims to ensure their safe movement.

Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed said the Health Department and Rescue 1122 have set up health camps to deal with any emergency.
