BERLIN, May 1: The German Athletics Federation (DLV) said on Monday it was impossible to erase controversial records set by athletes who were part of the state-run drugs programme in former East Germany (GDR).

”The experts have shown that erasing these controversial records is not legally possible,” said DLV president Clemens Prokop.

In October the DLV agreed to examine the validity of all national records after Ines Geipel, a sprinter for the former East Germany, asked to have her name removed from the record books.

Geipel, a doping victim of the GDR state-run drugs programme, was one of four athletes to set a German record for the 100m relay, which has stood since 1984.—AFP
