RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers and activists on Friday observed the 46th death anniversary of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and vowed to fulfil his dream of bringing socio-economic change in society.

A mass prayer was offered after the recitation of the Holy Quran at the PPP Central Secretariat in Islamabad.

Speaking at the event, Central Secretariat In-charge Syed Sibtul Haider Bukhari said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto received the title of Quaid-i-Awam for his national and democratic services.

He said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto made the country stronger and a nuclear power.

Mr Bukhari said that the former prime minister protected the rights of the people and created political awareness among them.

He said that President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari were working hard for the development and prosperity of the country.

Prayers were also offered for the complete recovery of President Asif Ali Zardari during the event.

In Rawalpindi, a prayer ceremony was held at the site where the PPP founding chairman was hanged in the old district jail (now Jinnah Park).

The prayer was arranged by the PPP Rawalpindi chapter.

Party office bearers and workers from other districts and tehsils of Rawalpindi participated in the event.

The speakers said that Mr Bhutto sacrificed himself for the people and sovereignty of the country.

They said that workers and activists of PPP would continue their struggle to spread the message of ZAB and Benazir Bhutto across the country.

PPP Workers’ Central Information Secretary Ibne Rizvi, Malik Mazhar Hussain and Anjum Mughal said that April 4 was the darkest day in the history of Pakistan when Mr Bhutto was hanged by a dictator who “wanted to end democracy but the party workers steadfastly fought all the dictatorial forces and kept the mission of the martyr alive”.

They said that the political life of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is a reflection of the great struggle to fulfil the promises made to the people.

They said that Bhutto united the people of all the provinces and his mission to bring the country on a development path will be fulfilled by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
