CHITRAL, April 30: Former district nazim and central leader of the ruling PML-Q Shahzada Mohyuddin has urged the federal government to take action against the DCO Chitral for what he called misuse of the President’s Relief Fund meant for flood-affected people.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said that on his request as district nazim last year the president had approved Rs30 million for construction of roads and suspension bridges in flood-affected areas.

He said that funds had now been provided to the DCO for utilisation in the affected areas of the district, and added that the officer concerned had now changed the name of the fund to DCO Funds, and was using the money according to his wishes on trivial work.

Citing examples, he said that extension of the Shandur polo ground, construction of sports store and waiting rooms was a blatant misuse of relief funds.

He alleged that the officer was involved in corrupt practices taking advantage of the inexperience of those at the helm of the district government.

Mr Mohyuddin said that people residing in remote valleys were still suffering as most of the roads and bridges had been destroyed last year by the October earthquake.

He called upon the relief commissioner of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Brigadier Sarfaraz, to come to the rescue of the people living in affected areas by initiating an inquiry against the DCO Chitral for misappropriation of the President’s Relief Fund.
